How to take care of your skin when it's hot inside and cold outside!

Gabriella shares her best tips on how to take care of your skin during our harsh canadian winter!

Winter is here, in full swing… and our skin is NOT happy. The harsh winds and cold temperatures usually lead to dryness, tightness, flaking, and chapping. Here are some tips to help maintain softness and radiance through these unforgiving months!

Tip 1

Exfoliate

Exfoliating during winter is key for removing dead skin cells and revealing a smooth base. Still, it’s important to use a product without hard beads, which can be damaging and overly aggressive on our thin skin, as well as very bad for the environment. An exfoliator that I recommend is the La Roche Posay Ultra Fine Scrub- the fine particles are gentle and refreshing but still get the job done!

Tip 2

Moisturize

The most obvious tip here is to moisturize. Moisturizing is fundamental in skincare and is even more important during cold months, when the tough weather is drying and depriving. Find good moisturizers that work well with your skin type, and use them every morning and evening. A good daily moisturizer for me is the Skinceuticals Daily Moisture and a great night time option is the Skinceuticals Renew Overnight Dry, which is ideal for dry skin. Don’t forget to moisturize your lips as well, which can get very chapped and irritated. Using something as simple as shea butter every morning and night will help keep them very soft!

Lea's extra tip : add a drop of oil to your moisturizer. I Recently tried Huna which I love. I always have oil in my purse during winter time so I can add on some more through the day. That way, my skin doesn't get itchy. Prévenir avant de guérir!

Tip 3

Use serums

I used to think serums were unnecessary skincare items, but I’ve found that they’re quite effective and especially helpful throughout Montreal’s winter. For those unfamiliar with serums, a quick definition is:  skincare products with the intent of delivering powerful ingredients directly into the skin. Though most serums are lightweight, they are concentrated and penetrate the skin well.  Through winter, I would recommend using one in conjunction with your moisturizer, for both day and night. The Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster helps restore moisture balance and revitalize skin.

Lea's extra tip : I love the Skinceuticals serum, a daytime vitamin c antioxidant face serum that delivers advanced environmental protection and diminishes the appearance fine lines and discoloration.

Tip 4

Stay hydrated

Creams and lotions can only do so much. Staying hydrated is essential for solving dry skin.  After all, our skin is made up of 64% water – so be sure to drink plenty! Sufficient water levels decrease dullness and tightness, and aid in flushing out toxins while boosting collagen production. Start by drinking the minimum recommendation of 2 litres of water a day- your complexion will thank you.

These tips are meant to aid in maintaining a smooth and nourished base, to keep you glowing through the winter!
